Reddog Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 Yes, that was a sad accident but it wasn't the aircraft's fault. It was operator error. Neither the pilots nor the engineers noticed that the Transmission Flexible Mounting Plate (BBQ Plate) tines were progressively breaking. When it finally failed completely the transmission broke loose. The machine was giving lots of warning but no one was listening. We put 22,000 hours on five Super Pumas in five years of longlining oil rigs in the Amazon and the aircraft performed really well throughout especially considering the longline experience of most of us when we started the job.
