#3 inverter
Just wondering if there is an STC to mount the Ontario forestry package on our aircraft. I know that they give you the weights for them but where is the approval for mounting that antenna on the skid tube? I did not have to do this as we have the technisonics tfm 550 radio installed but alot of other aircraft do not. Are we not responsible if it falls off and goes through the tail rotor and kills 9 people? Insurance void ? Two hose clamps and some tie wraps ? I still want to fly and everyone else is doing it so it must be approved ! I really hope they have fixed this problem, " not that it has been in the past but what if?" God bless the mosquito
Bell Hell
Just wondering if there is an STC to mount the Ontario forestry package on our aircraft. Are we not responsible if it falls off and goes through the tail rotor and kills 9 people? According to OMNR, there is an STC but they've never given it to me. Like you, we use the 550 or 530's, so the point is moot, but my understanding is that nobody should be bucking anything on their machine without the paper to cover their ***. I was gonna say even if it's the government, but I've reconsidered and now would say especially if it's the government telling you to do it. After all, you're fighting fire to save trees, and they'll grow back just fine; pilots, PAX, and helicopters don't grow back.

Blackmac
#3inverter: Contact TC in Toronto or OMNR in Sault St Marie, there main base. I know of at least one machine that went down killing the pilot due to the antenna going into the tail rotor. For your added info, any unauthorized equipment installed on an aircraft automatically cancels the C of A, no C of A, no insurance. Bell Hell
OMNR are currently requiring the contract machines to install a sat-tracking system as well. They supply the system, which is comprised of a controller, gps/satlink antenna, and associated cables. The weight is negligible, as is the current draw. Since the antenna can be mounted internally (on the glareshield with a relatively unobstructed view of the sky) there is no need for more holes in the skin. The company that makes the kits, LTC, says their DAR has applied for the STC's for the a permanent installation in a CL215. Since the installation in the contract fleet is temporary and not integrated with any other systems onboard, it could be installed as a minor mod per AC43.13 without a revision of the W&B or ELA. *Edited for poor spelling. Bell Hell
I think. I just re-read my last post and didn't want to come across as an authority. It appears TO ME that this sat-tracking install could be done as described.
