Oge Hover. Are We Drifting?

I have seen many videos of helicopters being used for external load operations such as installing air conditioners on roofs and so forth. I am sure such operations require a high level of precision. How do these pilots determine wheather or not they are drifting while hovering at say 300ft AGL- I mean like a 5 foot drift? Seems a though so little movement would be hard to judge from ground references at such a high altitude.

I read a really good article a couple of years back by Denis Venturi on the "Flying the Line" I will see if I can get a scan of it and post it. It was in a copy of the Helicopters Magazine a few years back.

It's OK to drift 5' laterally as long as you "drift" back before you've moved the hook off it's intended course.
