lineworker
Hey, what's the Lama like? Google gives generic info, I also was told it has the highest altitude record, no I never looked into whether that was true. I understand it is one loud SOB, but performs at 6000 like mean sea. Throw a pic or two if you've got one, I would love to see a performance on line.
Skidz
The Lama no longer holds the altitude record, that was set by the Astar B3 last year with a landing on the summit of Everest. The Lama however still holds the record for the longest/highest autorotation (from ~ 30 000 ft).

Skidz
I stand corrected. The B3 holds the record for highest altitude LANDING. And the longest auto was completed immediately following the Lama's record-breaking flight mentioned by porter when it ran out of fuel... Auto Relight
Skids, exactly why do you have the after your running out of fuel comment?? From where I sit, that's a pretty interesting record on many levels, the "worlds longest auto" being one of them. Not sure I'd have the stones for that one... Bell214
Here are some lama pictures. They are still very popular in the european Alps. The Lama is also a good rescue machine for extreme conditions, and for high altitude.(12000 ft and more)
BigSkyHeli
Here are a couple shots of one of the 3 Lamas we operate. They are fantastic for our operations. Mostly powerline construction, drill rigs, and production concrete, with the average daily temps in summer at 36C.
Firehawk
Worked beside Lamas alot this summer. Yellowstone National Park operates one for rescue and fires, Great machines, They certainly have some strange things about them. I must say they perform very nicley at altitude, You really notice it at 10,000ft when they work beside you in a 212.
