lamanated Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 not sure how they allowed the aircraft to claim a record if it wasn't a complete aircraft.. Quote
212wrench Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 they also didn't do anything. Might as well climbed up there and mounted it on a post. Quote
T-rex Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 It was an amazing feat! Be a while before any Bell product does something like that!!! It was classified as an experimental aircraft anyways, so Eurocpter can do what they may! Quote
Auto Relight Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 In a Bell the pilot would have frozen to death from all the air leaking in the door frame on the way up..... AR Quote
amodao Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 Theoretically being able to do something doesn't equal just doing it. There is no higher ground to land on, Eurocopter rocks! Bell's going to have to go land on another planet to beat that! Ha Ha Quote
407 too Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 actually, eurocopter holds the record for the highest "take-off" NOT landing, so that is still up for grabs, if your permits are in place :punk: Bell can still beat the highest TAKE-OFF by putting a helicopter on a platform atop a balloon, getting to height, then "take-off" to beat eurocopters record   Quote
vintagemilano Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 It's not a done deal until someone lands, shuts down, fires up and takes off from the top of everest. Quote
407 Driver Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 29,000' ... Now that's an auto-start that I don't want to be involved with .. Quote
hurler Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 I'll be watching the N1 on that , Opps just a little too much fuel. It'l never happen, until there is a commercial requirement and plenty of it to fund the development of such an AC. LAMA still rules in my books for simplicity durability, Can buy 3 for the price of a B3 or is that 4.? Cost of parts are another issue. H Quote
