rookie314 Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 In southern California they use belly tanks because you cannot drop them. you aslo can refuel from a hydrant or a water tender. Quote
Frequent Flyer Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 When departing Penticton there is absolutely no need to fly over the city at all. It might take a little longer to go around but at least you wont hit little Johhny in the playground when the thing comes off. Its about airmanship. Quote
milehighclub Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 Frequent Flyer....I agree....and then landing in the school yard seems like jumping from the frying pan into the fire so to speak....lots o splainin to do Quote
sharkbait Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 It has been a long time but I just loved the Frontier tank. You can do wonderfull things with one. Takes longer to fill but makes up for it with the versatility and accuracy in delivery. Just my opinion - buckets are fun too! Quote

Frequent Flyer Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 I am sure we havent heard the end of this one. Quote
helicopterjim Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 naw, you blow over too many lawn chairs sucking out of a pool, better to dip from a 100', harder to get reg as well <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Plus they can't beat on the tailboom with the pool strainer!!!!! Quote
Helilog56 Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 After reading this thread, it speaks loudly why, more and more we are seeing tanks utilized in urban areas. As I understand the U.S.F.S. has pretty much quit using buckets flying in those areas. Quote
Cole Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 If he would have dropped it a few seconds befor he probably would have smacked it right down on my house! The school he landed at is about a block from where I live. My guess is he was returning from kelowna and for some reason joined the pattern as opposed to a straight in and dropped the bucket. due to the mountains to the west penticton is a righthand for 34 left for 16 area. Was he departing or arriving? if he was departing I couldnt tell you why the **** he would be over there but arriving mabey. for those unfirmilliar the forestry base and everthing else for that matter is on the west side of the runway. Cole <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cole Whenever I had to depart or arrive at Penticton with a longline attached it was always out to, or in from the west. Even if I was arriving from the east I would take the long way around and approach the base from the west side. No excuse for flying over houses in Penticton. Glad to hear no one was hurt. Quote
