Skidz Posted August 17, 2005 Report Share Posted August 17, 2005 The SPH-4 is a Vietnam era helmet. It has a webbed suspension and weighs a ton. There are thousands of brand-new surplus SPH-4's on the market. In the Gentex world, I wouldn't touch anything older than SPH-4b (mil) or SPH-5 (civ). They've also made most of the other helmet tyes used by the US forces (armoured vehicles, carrier flight deck crew, infantry, etc.). Anything with the acronym SPH or HGU is Gentex-made...
