"At 6,500 feet (just under 2km) above the ground, a Rocket Lab Sikorsky S-92 helicopter met the falling booster and "used a hook on a long line to capture the parachute line."

"A tremendous number of factors have to align and many systems have to work together flawlessly, so I am incredibly proud of the stellar efforts of our Recovery Team and all of our engineers who made this mission and our first catch a success."

Would Transport Canada APPROVE such use of helicopters?

That’s a good question. I suspect that, with a extensive risk assessment, it would likely be on the table. Like with most TC interactions, it would heavily depend on the person you’re talking to.
As a long line guy, I would jump at the opportunity to do this kind of work. The line would have to be weighted properly and you would have to approach from above and behind so you could bail at a moment’s notice.
NASA, if you’re reading this, PM me…I’m in!!!😂

I doubt it but, if a capture had to happen in Canadian waters, maybe it’s possible. I know weather balloon recovery for NASA happens occasionally. CHL have done that in the past so, who know what’s possible 🤷🏽
