Another couple by Mr. Corley-Smith were 10,000 Hours and Helicopters in BC... I think I gave my copies to a local Air Cadet Squadron when I lived in YQW... Isn't son Gerry still with or was with Highland?

Very close but not quite. Okanagan Air Services, which eventually became the CHC of today, was the first operator in Canada. Their first commercial flight was in 1947. VIH was founded in 1955 and Alf Stringer, who was one of the original three founders of Okanagan, eventually went on to run VIH for many years. The history of rotary aviation in Canada is well documented by Peter Corley-Smith (who used to work for VIH).

VIH has been around the longest and is still operating to this day.  Okanagan et al were assimilated by Canadian at the time, which then split, sold, rebranded, resold, rebranded and resold and renamed to the mess it is today.

That makes sense re VIH.

Re the other outfit..."Resistance was futile, they were assimilated" to use a version of a quote from a series on tv.  And yup, a mess it became.  Sad...

I'm pretty sure it started in Northern Ontario and then it spread across Canada...I rememeber some folks coming into the hanger in Wpg and was told they wanted to buy out Midwest...which they did not!

Ya, resistance was futile, if dobbin didn't buy you out he set up shop next door and undercut you out.  A great pioneer in the undercutting business which still flourishes today.
