twinstar_ca
i would prefer to think that any pilot and engineer working together as a team will determine the a/c's airworthiness together...
Elvis
That would be a perfect world, It ain't going to happen :elvis:
Biggles
..... and I would prefer to think like Twinstar on this. Commonsense would have it that way too wouldn't you think ? I find often find myself in both circles, the engineer circle forever plays down the pilot, the pilot circle plays down the engineer and strangely both are passionate about each their own jobs, work & fly the same a/c for the same company, drink the same drinks, eat the same foods, laugh at the same jokes and ramble on about the same stories in the same locations. And I thought my gender was hard to figure out!
Uncommanded LoadRelease
As an Engineer your job is to keep the machine in the air with saftey as your primary concern. It is also up to your pilot to refuse to fly the machine if there is any doubt as to the airworthiness. Was the Pilot comfortable with the flight? Does anyone know? Uncommanded LoadRelease
Does anyone actually belive that the helicopter industry has stooped to such a level? Where an operator would endanger it's pilots?
Deep Throat II
I think I know the operator in question, and I know they run a fantastic operation and would never do anything that wasn't above board. And the DOM is an excellent engineer.
Helilog56
Twinstar is bang on.....it is a "team" effort which starts right at the top (ownership) right through any operation. I would like to think that petty personality differences are cast aside to use a common sense approach to such a problem, especially out in the field. Risk management is a basic fundamental which needs to be exercised by all.
twinstar_ca
agreed, H56... and it really doesn't matter what industry it is, if something goes wrong, the 1st ones the beancounters look at is the guys on the frontlines... even more reason to be a team!!! and yes, in the perfect world, the guys at the top will remember when they were the guys in the field and support them accordingly!!!
