ridgeline Posted January 2, 2014 Report Posted January 2, 2014 Just wondering where folks are storing/transporting these back country avalanche packs (the rapidly expanding airbag type) when passengers bring them along. Thanks for any ideas 4 Quote
Kitchen Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 Are they classed as Dangerous Good's? and would it be classed as limited Access? If #### went sideways? is it not like life jacket? Just asking in case someone takes a picture and bust's me with transport. "Rat's are out there these days".. 1 Quote
Helilog56 Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 I think it would be wise that your company sets a policy within their SOP's....one of those deploying in an aircraft could have some serious side effect??!?! 1 Quote

I guess it's safe to say you won't be posting pics of these items loaded in your aircraft online... Happy New Year Everyone! Quote

Shouldn't the company Operations Manager, Dangerous Goods Coordinator and/or Safety Officer be able to provide you with answers to the questions you are asking? I am pretty sure they have a responsibility to do so... Quote
Freewheel Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 I think there are allowances for both of these items under ICAO Dangerous Goods regulations under "consumer articles" that allow for carriage of both of these items (even on airlines - with their approval). Therefore, no need for mention in TDGR or 12.9 Limited access. So I think you are in the clear...with TDGR http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/standards/commerce-dangerousgoods-regoverview-passlugg-menu-1574.htm Only need to comply with 602.86 of CARs now... Over-Talk Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 They always ride in the ski basket with the T-handle folded away. Despite this precaution, it is surprising how often they accidentally POP during loading and unloading. Be careful!! When our guests take them on an airliner, they disconnect the gas bottle just to be sure. 1 Quote
R0T0R Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 Freewheel, I enjoy some of the topics on this site because they bring to light some obscure points and rais awareness among its members. On more than one occasion, the topics on this site have been brought up in safety meetings such as carry on baggage. Please don't jump down kitchens throat. Let's make this a comfortable place to ask questions. Respectfully, R 2 Quote
hawthorn Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 ABS bags go in the ski basket. Once they've popped they can ride in the cabin:-) 1 Quote
