Iceman
Can someone tell me the function of the slats on the leading edge of the Longranger horizontal stabilizers? Why I ask is we have taken delivery if an LR that dies not have them installed. Thanks
helicopterjim
The LR or straight L came without the slats. You will notice when flying that in a steep climb when the airspeed reaches about 60 mph the aircraft will begin to pitch up.... quite a surprise when you don't expect it. It has been a while so if someone can describe the speeds and effect better please correct me. The L-1 and subsequent models had the slats added to eliminate this characteristic.
Iceman
Hey thanks for that Helijim we have a L2 with the slats but the LR horizontal has the screw holes but no slats. Thought maybe it had to do with the C20R Soloy conversion but what you are sayin makes sense. Cheers
sven
Quote from the Bell 407 FM: "The leading edge slats are designed to improve pitch stability during climbs. " They allow the air to flow smoothly around the bottom of the horizontal stab to avoid stalling it. If you are concerned about whether the LR should have them, contact product support in Mirabel. Good luck.
helicopterjim
Thanks Sven .... better said than my bit. I've never heard of them being added to a straight L but it sure would help .... I remember putting the stick up against the dash a few times wondering what the heck was going on ...!!
Iceman
Yes thanks, if the over pitching becomes an issue maybe we see if they can be installed on the LR. Looks like just they screw on anyway.
flingwinger
Not sure on the longRangers but the 407 slats are liquid shimmed to the stab

Heliian
No slats for straight L's or LR, I have never seen one that had them nor would I bother adding them(it's a couple of pounds more in the tail). You will see the screw holes because the horizontal stabilizers have been upgraded.
