flingwinger Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/01/ipad-gets-approval-from-faa-to-replace-paper-flight-charts-and-m/ There is an 'unapproved' App with Canadian support now called Air Nav Pro for both the ipad and iPhone. I just tried it out yesterday and must say it is very capable. Beats the **** out of the airmap 600c ive been using. It has the ability to store custom waypoints and a built in flight log which logs landings, time up, time down etc. The only features it does not offer 'yet' are terrain and weather overlay. For $40 it competes with units 20x the price. It does not need data/cell service to function either. Quote
Amphibious Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 I did an IFR checkride last sunday, with the DPE sitting next to me using his Ipad. it would display a little airplane that was GPS synched over the Approach plate. to cool. Quote
R22Captain Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 was he playing Angry Bird between approaches? Quote

shakey Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 as in sunglasses? or as in pilots? here's both You can be my wing man any day 22. Quote
Winnie Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Bull$hit! You can be MINE! Edit: One of my students (a fixed wing pilot with LOTS of experience) showed me his IPAD, with the software on it. it has all kinds of fun doohickeys on it, even one with fuelprices all over. You can REALLY choose the best spot to get fuel. it would go nicely with our new SAGEM cockpit (So now I can PRETEND to be flying the CARSON 61...). Cheers H. Quote
R22Captain Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 As Shakey said, what if the battery dies or you drop it? What I the 212 shakes the guts out of it? Hmmmm maybe I should shut my mouth and start working on an STC for docking station I could sell for $10,000 for a 600 iPad Better get to the workshop.... Quote
