Iphone Apps

Hey, so I'm sure lots of you have iPhones by now and played with one or the other app. Would be fun if you could share which ones you've found useful and which ones are a waste of money / time. I'm primarily interested in productivity and utility, but of course there are times when games are important

 

I'm using:

- AeroWeather (the free version is more than enough for me)

- Decibels (out of curiosity, free)

- Convert Units (free)

- iHandy Level (free)

 

and I've been putting in some serious research effort to find two things, a flight timer and a logbook solution. It appears that there are many options but non seem to be tailored towards helicopter operations with (e.g. BH06) a Hobbs START, Hobbs END and lots of take offs and landings some with shut downs and some hot .. Anyways, if you know of a timer that works, lemme know and if you've found a logbook solution that allows you to easily track a normal day (20 sites, multiple shutdowns and startups, etc.) then I'd be more than happy to hear about that.

ps: I'm aware of Logten Pro and yes, it is a fantastic app and I've played with it lots however the difficulty I see is when I want to enter individual flights from an airport to a bush site. The logbook requires you to enter the site name and then researches its database to find an ICAO equivalent. Takes a long time.

Also, when you enter Hobbs numbers, it uses that as Total Time, so it doesn't distinguish between AirTime and FlightTime, at least I haven't figured that out.

I have one called TopoMaps that let's you download any topographical maps for Canada and the US I believe. Thought it would be good for hiking, but as far as i can tell they don't really include those types of trails... SO I don't use it enough to be worth what i paid... which is to say I never use it

 

Shazam - for when you don't know what that song is!

 

ScoreMobile - to keep up with football and hockey and all things manly

 

Flixter - for movie reviews, showtimes, even buying tickets

 

Quickpedia - just wikipedia on your phone

 

Urbanspoon - to find something good to eat anywhere!

 

Remote - to control itunes when you're not near the laptop

 

X-Plane Helicopter - for when you can't actually fly... but I don't think it was worth the money

 

Flight Control - fun little game

 

Angry Birds - horribly addictive little game

 

Big Picture - great app version of http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/ for awesome photography compilations

I use logten pro, There is a setting for Air time, you just have to select it to display it. If there is anything you wanted to track that is not on there, you can add it. It takes some time but once you get it set up it works perfect. It tracks duty and rest periods, medicals, PPC, weekly, monthly, yearly limits etc etc. Whatever you want its in there. You can also add bush site names, if you enter it and it does not find the location - it will create a new one as you entered it.

Aeroweather (free) - I'm a new pilot, an old avalanche technician and an all-around weather weenie, so this gets used several times a day.

 

I just downloaded one called Daylight; a simple app that gives sunrise and sunset times (plus civil twilight times) for your location. Also free.

 

Road Trip LE - Punch in every fillup along with my odometer reading to track gas mileage in my Cherokee.

 

Urbanspoon - me and the missus use it all the time when we're on the road.

 

I play a *lot* of guitar, so I use Polytune and iStroboSoft all the time. Far less hassle than plugging my TU-2 when I'm playing at home. Got 'em both free during a limited time promotional introduction.

 

GoodReader Lite - I've downloaded some Bell flight manuals

in PDF format, so I use this to read 'em. A bit clunky, but free.

 

Priceline Negotiator - Only used it once so far, but it got us a $169 hotel room for $45 in Seattle a few weeks back.

 

I use the Maps app that came with the phone a lot. Come winter, I use the Canadian Avalanche Association app quite a bit. I have a few other freebies that I don't use much. I'm not a big gamer, so no Angry Birds or anything like that. The Light Saber app can be fun, though!

I really like the Apps at Dakota's Restaurant in Chilliwack. The bacon wrapped scallops are great and the crab caps are awesome. Sometimes I just go for the wings ....

Just new to the iPhone so I only have a few apps so far, mostly photography (go figure)

 

I like the angry birds, I cant stop laughing!

 

Mike Reyno recommended Pro HDR and Tilt Shift Gen, both are excellent.

Wow, those are great photos! I'm keen to try out some HDR stuff with my regular camera, but I might thry it out on my phone too. That an iPhone 4?

Yes I am using the iPhone 4. Both shots are within a few miles of each other near the Salmon Glacier, Stewart, BC.
