2007 Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Anyone know of layoffs at Blackcomb and West Coast Heli? Quote
Auto Relight Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Heard about BC a couple weeks ago, didn't know about WC though. Sorry to hear that, pretty rough year most places by the sound of it. AR Quote
Daz Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Dang, that's a downer. Yet I see Alpine just posted a position on Aero Ads for experienced mountain/longline pilots... with any luck those that got cut from Blackcomb or West Coast won't be out of work for long. *EDIT*: They've posted the ad here, too. S'posed to be a hot one this week across BC - maybe we'll get a fire season after all. Quote
deuce Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Layoffs are always tough, but doing it in June is especially tough to hear. I thought BC would have had a good winter with the olympics and all. Thought they had deep pockets...guess the problem is they have short fingers Quote

splitpin Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Please further define"Cull" and what it means as it applies to the industry. P5 If you don't know what the term "cull" means in this industry or any other for that matter, then I suggest you go back to school. Then again, maybe you are still in school. To make it easy for you , simply follow this link. Put the little arrow thingy (cursor) over the link and gently press the left hand button on your mouse. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culling Please don't be offended if you recognize any personal traits in the article. pilot5 Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Sounds professional. Is this explained to students before the drop 60K on a license? Just curious. Quote
Amphibious Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Sounds professional. Is this explained to students before the drop 60K on a license? Just curious. it is amazing how little about the actual industry is explained to students. I still read/hear that most helicopter pilots are nearing retirement age and there will soon be a huge need for pilots. oh, and that the industry is booming. Quote

What could the flight schools POSSIBLY have to gain by telling their students that? Quote
