Heli500 Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Has anyone had any trouble with the Garmin SL40 opening up FM transceivers. We have 3 SL40's and whenever you transmit on VHF the FM opens up and the co-pilot gets squelched out. You can actually sit in the hanger and transmit VHF in one machine and have it squelch the FM in the machine beside it. Has anyone else encountered this? Thanks Quote
Heliian Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 If it's a new install, check your fm and vhf antennae to make sure they are the correct frequency range. The old COMANT fm antenna with the wire wrap can break down and start to allow cross talk. If they're too close together, they'll also interfere with each other. Also, check to make sure the grounding plane is of the correct size if attached to composite and that the antenna is actually connected to the plane(if someone intalled it with too much adhesive on the base). Sometimes the fm unit ie. tfm-138, can fail internally also. Start with the cables and connectors and work your way up to the lru's from there. Best of luck, I Quote

Thanks We've had similar issues with the SL40's but only between another SL40 not the FM....to my recollection anyway. It was an issue with the "interconnect lockout" - a little jumper wire I believe to prevent crosstalk issues between units. Quote
