Nerd Alert - Flash Light?

Somewhere in my travels I have seen an ULTRA bright compact flash light. Does this ring any bells for anyone?

Bushnell also makes one, great for pre and post flights, way too bright for map reading at night

Best one I found is new Leatherman ones- expensive but small, get them at the B.C. Mountain co-op. One uses AAA and brighter one uses small wierd battery but works great. We will keep one in each aircraft.

I swear by my Petzl Zipka plus 2 ( horrible name ), super bright, head strap winds into lamp. Handy when climbing up to DI head and it also has a red lamp for night flights. Got mine at MEC

I think the new bright LEDs are the way to go, but they aren't cheap. No more broken or burnt out bulbs and much longer battery life. I had a Surefire for years, phenomonal little light, but try and replace a bulb! One time I needed it and the bulb was out and that's the last I carried it, plus it was hard to find batteries. Surefire makes LEDs now too, but I believe those Leathermans and Gerbers would be far cheaper. I'd look for LED that takes standard batteries.

 

I found this LED Lenser that meets all my requirements, dang bright but it has a dim setting as well for cockpits, and small....

If you need Surefire parts,bulbs go to the 911 store in Calgary.Just off Blackfoot,and 42nd??

They carry a good selection of lights,and parts.They also sell the 9v batteries that regular stores charge 9$,, for about 2$.

I've had good luck with Pelican, they make a full range of waterproof, sturdy flashlights from keychain LED's to super-bright Xenon. Fenix makes a powerful light at a reasonable price. Although I haven't seen them in person the new Leathermans would automatically get my vote. If you're going to fly an Airbus or 777, I recommend the Surefire Aviator, optimized for pilots with high disposable incomes (I'm sure it's a very good light too).

I use a cheap Garrity LED flashlight I bought at Walmart...

 

It has lasted for years now and it uses normal AAA batteries so I can keep spares around.
