Shop Rates

I've been calling around lately to see what different companies are charging for a shop rate when they work on third party aircraft.

 

It seems that the average is between $90 - $100 / hour. Most automotive shops are at least $120 / hour. Why are we low?

 

Even t that customers complain that those rates are way to high.

And the auto mechanics used to be half of the shop rate. See now that they are only getting 38.00 per hour. But it also takes twice as long to be come a licensed auto mechanic.

Shop rates for autos range from 75 to 110. If you're paying 120 you own a ferrari and can afford it anyway. As for the helicopter industry, there is no standard and the lowest bidder wins, yay!! Considering the original purchase price of a helicopter at 400000$ + relatively speaking the labour rate should be 400$ or more per hour.

 

If the prices of labour go up, then the DOC goes up, then the manufacturer of the helicopter wouldn't be able to quote such low DOC's and then the people* wouldn't buy the helicopter in the first place. Vicious cycle.
