pilot5
Was thinking about making an application to Blackcomb. Would like any input from anybody that has or does work there. Seems like they are looking for staff every few months so would like any inside view on the turn over, money and how staff are treated. Thanks in advance. Roo
I suppose I can answer the turnover question. There is very little! We advertised for contractors a fair bit in the summer and hired a couple. We have filled the last last request for a full timer and are on the hunt once again. No one has left. We simply need another full time pilot in the corridor. We are specifically looking for a guy (or gal) that has Heli-ski experience with good long line skills and plenty of mountain time. We offer great benefits and competitive wages. The job will be a Base/Pool job as demand dictates. I will let someoneelse answer the other questions as I am probably biased. Darksidelogger
Wasn't Blackcomb advertising for a Chief Pilot and Director of Maitenance recently?. 2 out of 3 positions of TC required management being replaced seems like a bit of turnover or did they move to other positions in the company? DSL Yes this is true! Could this be due to the takeover of Omega? Anybody know exactly how great the benefits and retirement plan are? I guess this company must be expanding if nobody ever leaves and turnover is low. I was under the distinct impression that the economy and Heli industry was in a down turn? Must say, am a little confused.

Happyguy
They have had an ad running for pilots, or variations thereof, for quite awhile. The chief pilot one is the most current iteration of the same old ad. They want you to have a lot of experinece in very specific and numerous aspects of rotary aviation plus current on several aircraft type. A very difficult, if not impossible, combination to find. They are most likely just collecting resumes. The pilot profiles on their web page hasn't changed or been added to in quite awhile. They're fish'n...noth'n wrong with that...just gett'n a little old. dimit
1. Olympics are coming: Infrastructure + Media + Tourism. 2. Blackcomb is a busy company. I live in Squamish and see/hear them flying quite a bit. 3. When companies grow folks move up, down, sideways, trying different jobs. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't. Don't know the details at Blackcomb but I imagine some of that's going on. 3. Know lots of their customers and some of the folks working there. Never heard a bad word. 4. Whistler may be expensive, but Squamish and Pemberton aren't so bad. Unless you're moving from somewhere other than Vancouver or Whistler! I have a good deal with a great company, and we (my family) prefer strictly pool work. Otherwise I'd wanna be working for Blackcomb: Lots of interesting work, good equipment, good maintenance. (Roo, next time I'm through Whistler you owe me beer!) pilot5
Thanks for the PM's all ! The overall review is good! If they are just collecting resumes, good on'em for keeping the hope alive, and maintaining an optimistic view of future requirements. Now would somebody please get Dimit some beer! It seems as though the poor lad will say just about anything for a sip!

I have much better things to do than field a bunch of Resumes on my spare time. I realize the expectations may be high but Heli-skiing and long-lining is our business. We don't expect to get people with all the endorsements but the more the better. Hope you all managed to get a good summer in. Dimit, I owe you that beer.
