warner Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 going over some old notes here and I can't find any reference to the worm gear/static stop whats it do ? Quote
Elvis Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Do you mean the screws in the M/R Head that adjust the strap twist? Quote
swede Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 The collective forces are adjusted by adjusting the TT strap twist. Allowing for the collective to be lowered in-case of hydraulic failure. Go for a flight and turn off the hydraulics. If the pilot cant lower the collective then the head/worm gear needs to be adjusted. removing some of the twist in the blades. Quote

swede Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 PS this is a VERY critical step that has been missed in the past. With out the forces set a pilot will not be able to land with out hydraulics. Quote
Elvis Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 If you do adjustment be very careful, the screws will strip if the procedue is not done correctly. Quote
ame206350 Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 If you do adjustment be very careful, the screws will strip if the procedue is not done correctly. What this means is loosen the static stops (which contain the worm gear screw) slightly before adjusting the worm gear. Don't disengage the worm gear screw from the inboard fitting - just back it off a bit. As the worm gear engages the splines on the inboard fitting it will actually move a little more as the static stop is tightened up. So there is usually a little bit of back and forth to get them set up. Small adjustments (like most everything on the helicopter) will make things go smoothly. (Also: read the manual obviously ) Quote
