412driver Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 can someone give me a rundown of helicopter types certified for flight in known icing? thanks Quote
CTD Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 On the civilian side, the Puma with the kit, and someday maybe the S-92 are all I know of. Quote
deuce bigalow Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 Super P and thats it. The KA 32 has a blade heater that rocks. It's driven by a giant generator that sits between the two rotors. Not certified in Canada though. Quote
Bladestrike Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 I heard Sikorsky had a 76"D" model in the works that was to have deiced blades but not sure where it went. Anybody know if the AB139 is going to be certified for ice? I've heard there's not too many of those Puma kits out there, anybody know the numbers? Quote
Bladestrike Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 Found the answer to my own question; from the Agusta-Bell AB139 website; Ice detection & protection option But I couldn't find a date when the bird will be available. Quote
RDM Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 Puma's, I'll ask some of the lads here in the know but if my memory serves correct there are 7. HS (CHC) has 3, Icelandic Coast Guard has one and we are drivin' the other three ships. Gotta love it, with todays technology all a/c should have it.  Quote

cyclic monkey Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 The EH 101 is certified for flight in icing. ........it is also possible the Apache is approved because here's a photo of one for the top of a wedding cake, an area well known for heavy icing. Quote
