Shooter Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Anyone attended either the "aero course" or "accelerated aviation" ATPL(H) ground school? I'm looking to attend one prior to writting my exams. I find I'm more motivated to study when I've got a course coming up and need a kick in the a@# to get into the books sometimes... But since these courses run $400-$600 plus airfare and time off, best to get some opinions prior to signing the cheque. Cheers. Quote
matt_as350 Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 I've sat in on the Aero Course Instrument rating where Peter Shewring was the instructor, highly recommend him, well worth the cash, and their gouges of exam questions are updated every few weeks or so. Quote
Flinger Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 I'm attending the course right now. It's excellent. Very well put together, very informative and well presented. You're getting instruction from highly experienced people here, not 200 hour wonders. Well worth the money in my opinion. Quote
Shooter Posted June 2, 2008 Author Report Posted June 2, 2008 My understanding was that the "Aero course", was for the ATPL in general and they did not run a specific course for the helicopter rating. That would mean about 25% of the content would not be applicable ie - high level airspace, fixed wing aerodynamics, fixed wing weight and balance etc. Has this been your experience? Thanks for the info. Quote
bs205 Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Flinger, quite a statement from you on 200 hour wonders, seeing as you are one. Quote
Flinger Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 You're right about the lack of helicopter specific content, but I wasn't able to find anyone in Southern ON offering an IFR ground school for heli pilots. So far we haven't covered anything above 18,000'. No fixed wing W&B or theory of flight either. The instructor has everyone introduce themselves and there are high time bush guys, college guys and private pilots. This way, he has a pretty good idea how to present the course. He gears the content adding extra so the private guys and the heli guys get what they need. In a few cases where there are items that may be different for helicopters, he just gives me a heads up so I know what to look for on my own. Excellent course. Quote
Winnie Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 Flinger, quite a statement from you on 200 hour wonders, seeing as you are one. Now then, Flinger is not exactly a 200 hour wonder anymore.... Regardless of how he got to where he is now, that is simply not true. Quote
