Old Dog ------ on a particular afternoon in April of 1970, an a/c crashed into the MacKenizie River, in front of the Mackenzie Mountain Lodge in Normal Wells, NWT. The pilot of that a/c didn't get out amongst the huge ice-cakes inthe river at that time and he drowned. One Stanley Knowles, a well-known CBC reporter of the day, called the pilot's wife at the pilot's home in Winnipeg to have a brief interview with her concerning her husband's passing. The pilot's wife was preganant and when he made his call, she had no idea that her husband had crashed and died 48 hours before. She fainted upon receiving his call with that information, resulting in a miscarriage hours later.

 

It turns out that the pilot mentioned did indeed crash, but he did not die as a result or even have a scratch on him. He had no idea that he was 'supposed' to be dead according to the national newscaster and assorted other media as a result. He was unable to call his wife until three days had passed and learned then that she was in hospital and they had lost their unborn son. Two years later, they were awarded a $280,000 lawsuit by the courts against CBC and also received a long letter of apology from Mr. Al Johnson, the CEO of CBC at that time.

 

That pilot mentioned above was ME.

Pay attention, TwistedStupor: There's a huge difference between sensationalism in the media and reporting credible facts, whether in the media or a public forum. Erroneous and self-serving speculation causes undue harm to people. Pffft. Even a blonde knows that!
