    • Canada is trying to appease the Donald and the ministers that governor justin appointed to do this don’t have many operators to turn to that can swiftly and seamlessly put on a show like this- maybe there is a clause in the rule books that say “whatever’s necessary to stop a trade war”  can’t fight city hall anyway.
    • Since the Government of Canada, seems so content with trying to regulate by guidance material, maybe they should write some more guidance material, clarifying how they aren’t in violation to their own Code of Ethics and Values. Without additional material, it just looks like a complete lack of integrity.  https://www.tbs-sct.canada.ca/pol/doc-eng.aspx?id=25049 Application    Acceptance of these values and adherence to the expected behaviours is a condition of employment for every public servant in the federal public sector, regardless of their level or position. A breach of these values or behaviours may result in disciplinary measures being taken, up to and including termination of employment.
    • Using two Blackhawks to patrol the Canadian border between the Pacific and the Atlantic is the aviation equivalent of electing a Prime Minister because he has nice hair.
    • I'm very interested in buying this Garmin 296. Is it still available? Could you confirm the condition of the battery and screen (are there any scratches or fading)? Also, let me know the shipping cost to Barrie. Thanks! Chill Guy Clicker
    • The link is broken but you can see from the title what’s happening. Pretty cool for sure
    • That’s a good question. I guess you would have to ask the Operator, and the air crew, how they reconcile those persons as essential, under the CARs. Given the fact that the Pilot-in-command has full responsibility and authority for operation and safety of the aircraft during flight time, I would say it falls to PIC to determine which flight rules the flight is operating, and ensure compliance. TC should have some explaining to do as well, given the interpretation they published in AC 702-001, and classified the “rescue” portion of a Search and Rescue flight as a MEDEVAC flight.  This is the risk you run when you circumvent the CARAC process, and bureaucrats try to regulate by setting stricter standards in guidance material. Unfortunately, guidance material is advisory in nature, and does not carry the weight of the law; particularly when your guidance material is not supported by the law. Frankly, I’d say it’s not much more of a leap to claim these people are performing an “essential function in connection with the aerial work”, than it is to refer to the return flight as Medevac. Nowhere that I am aware of in the CARs supports this position; and since, there is a definition for Medevac flights, unless the person is injured, or ill, the flight would not qualify. The primary purpose of these flight is not to conduct an air transport service. Without the person being searched for, and rescued (or apprehended), the flights would never have been initiated. In addition, I think the current CARs  require a pilot to shut down and wait until the blades stop, before initiating another flight leg under different flight rules….just a bit problematic, as it would not be safe to do so on many unprepared landing sites.
    • Sounded like round up in Vancouver had some mixed reviews. Guess we see what trump and the USA brings that might be a big factor
